Alexis Olin works across fashion and portraiture, bringing the precision of an editorial image into contact with the spontaneity of an encounter. Direct flash, saturated colour and black and white reveal the small gestures through which people inhabit a photograph: a turned shoulder, a hand across a face, a gaze that holds the frame. Clothing, rooms and the street become part of the portrait, giving each image its own balance of composure, intimacy and movement.
